“A Spanking for the President”
I’m listening to coverage from WBUR (local NPR station) about the report from the Iraq Study Group. Michael Duffy, a commentator on the station’s On Point program, just called the report “a spanking for the president.” W is way too proud and Cheney way too evil for me to believe that this will really change things. Still, this spanking from W’s daddy, by way of James Baker, might force change.

the many many different people who make up this study group is fascinating. Not just James Baker, but Sandra Day Oconner and Alan Simpson and Vernon Jordan. interesting bunch.
Damn! You beat me to the post.
I've been stuck on the train, reading a transcript of the report I downloaded from the Beeb's website.
Guarded good news.
Robyn, I've been thinking a lot about Sandra Day O'Connor lately. I wonder how she feels about casting the deciding vote that put W in office.
Dive, I don't think the report will save us, but like I said, the spanking is noteworthy.
On this topic I will side with one of the worlds most intelligent women.
"To me, consensus seems to be the process of abandoning all beliefs, principles, values and policies. So it is something in which no one believes and to which no one objects."
Margaret Thatcher
I'm afraid I disagree with your consensus quote. It is not the process of abandoning principles; rather, it is finding areas where another's principles overlap with yours---at least enough to speak. In this case, however, I think that the Iraq report just stated the obvious---things aren't going well, and something needs to happen.
It's not about change, unfortunately. It's just about getting the Saudis off the hook.
I would love to be saying something more positive about it but sadly there isn't much positive to say about the whole ridiculous operation.
