Global Warming Eye-Popping Color

Today’s wrong, but it’s hard to be upset. After a gray and drizzly morning, the clouds parted in an instant, leaving a clean, clear light that was almost as jarring to the senses as the record-breaking heat. Driving toward the beach with the windows rolled down, the newly-washed colors popped in a way that I’ve only ever experienced while on drugs. I turned the music up a bit louder and drove along with a star-struck grin on my face. Everywhere, everything, screamed amazement. I walked along the beach, not even wearing a sweater, in awe. The clouds returned as I headed into town, and the sun played off them. I watched shadows play off buildings the way I do when I’m stoned. But I wasn’t, which made the experience that much more incredible.

This isn’t good. The heat today should convince anyone that global warming is real, and that we need to do something about it. Now. It might already be too late. What’s more, this day is going to make winter all that much harder to bear when it does come. My senses are awake. I’m ready for life to begin again, and it’s not real.

Here are a few photos from my day. My camera did not do justice to the intense colors, but you might get the idea.

We have had an unseasonably warm winter so far as well--50s instead of 20s and 30s, which is normal for this time of year. Hmm. But I don't have beautiful pictures to show. Sassy, these are lovely. You are lucky to live near such natural and powerful beauty.

Wow, Sassy. Yet more beautiful photos to cheer up my dull, grey, January morning here in shitty Britain.

Don't get me started on America's reaction to global warming …
With any luck, we'll all die from a pandemic before we kill everything else on the planet.

Sorry. I'm a bit miz this morning.

Robyn, I haven't heard how hot it got, but I saw a photo from Marblehead, MA (not far from here), that showed a bank clock registering 75. Seriously, it wasn't just balmy (like today, or even Friday when it got up to 63). It was almost hot. That was what made the day so strange. It felt more like early June around here than January.

Dive, I know all about our reaction to global warming. It's terrible when we let politicians have more authority than scientists. I felt guilty driving to the beach in my little compact good-gas mileage car. But I did it, so I'm also responsible.

On a cheerier note, those really a re beautiful pictures.

And wasn't it nice to see Nancy getting stuck in to her new job?

Totally, agree . . . weather here was creepy. Watching dudes drive around in their convertibles with the tops down and people jogging shirtless was just unreal. We tried to enjoy the day for what it was worth and then watched "An Inconvenient Truth" on the ol' DVD player. Seemed fitting enough.

I'm kind of worried that Summer is going to be blistering.

The planet will be fine as usual, we are screwed you get the planet you deserve.

James, I know. It's completely crazy. I thought about An Inconvenient Truth all day yesterday. Still, I'm such a summer person that it was hard for me to be unhappy.

Knudsen, I'm not so sure the Earth will be fine. I believe it will compensate, but this isn't what it was supposed to be.

How many times has the earth changed I wonder, maybe it goes in cycles the earth has been what it should have been as nothing stays the same or lasts forever, change is nature and we and our ways are a part of nature.

Yep. In fact on my way to work on Saturday I had to turn on the A/C in my car (I turned on the A/C in my car in January?!?!) because it was too warm with all the sunshine and the light sweater I was wearing. Weird.

After work, I think I'm going to go finish watching An Inconvenient Truth
